Some Basic Info On Stocks
Investing into the stock market can be a very powerful plan of action. So, what are they? Here is a short basics of stock market investing tutorial for people who want to start learning about the stock market.
What a stock is, is simply part of the ownership of a given company. For instance if you buy 1 share of stock in company XYZ then you own a piece of the company. If there are 10 million shares of stock and you own 1 then you are 1/10,000,000th owner of that company.
Over time stocks go up and down based on the growth of the company and the demand for the stock. If the company is hot and is growing fast then obviously there is demand for the company and the stock price will increase.
Stocks can also make money for their investors in a second way. Stocks paying dividends are stocks that pay you a very small amount of the earnings that a company has. These earnings can make you some extra money on the side and as the company grows and starts to prosper their dividends will continue to increase meaning more and more cash flow for you.
So, how can you find strong stocks in strong companies that will grow as time goes by?Well there are a lot of different strategies out there, however the best long term strategy is probably value investing.
This involves buying stocks in companies that are already well established, but their stock is just not at a fair price. In other words their stock is undervalued and is a great buy.
Value investors will look at different ratios like the Price to Earnings Ratio and the Price to Book Ratio in order to determine whether a company’s stock price is where it should be or whether it is undervalued or overvalued.
It can also be pretty valuable to look at how much money the company does make compared to their expenses and if they do have potential to grow. If the company isn’t something that you can see being around in 5 years then maybe investing into it for the long term is a bad idea. However if it has a huge growth potential then the opposite is true.
When it comes down to it you have to be the one to decide if it is worth getting into or not. However if you take the time to do your research right then you will be setting yourself up for long term success.
