The misconception about midwives

Midwifery is a profession concerned about the well-being of a pregnant mother.  They provide prenatal care as well attend the birth. They also provide postpartum care as well.Midwives are not nurses but if they choose to, they can be. But they have a governing body so they are being regulated.But what are the wrong things that people think of midwives and midwifery in general?

The misunderstanding stems from the practice of giving birth at home.  In my practice of helping women as a San Diego midwife, homebirths are where people get confused.  People usually think delivering a baby at home is unsafe. But for low risk pregnancy they are safe.  Midwives do have some medical equipment for emergencies.Most complications are avoided because of the method that they deliver babies.

This is where the benefits come.  As some midwives in San Diego perform their services they do it with a natural delivery.This kind of delivery involves no medicine while birthing.No medicine is being used to limit the pain experienced by the mother during birthing.But not using medication to help ease the pain of birthing is a good thing since it makes the delivery happen faster.Because most mothers do not know the fact that taking medicines that help ease birthing pains actually slows down the delivery.  So by avoiding medication they don’t slow down the delivery.

And when the mother decides to undergo water birthing more positive things can be benfited by both the mother and the baby. From doing waterbirth in San Diego in my practice the water eases the delivery.  The water actually soothes the muscles and allows easer delivery. Plus the baby is birthed in water reducing the shock and stress for the child.

As you can see there are some things that people wrongly think of about midwives and their chosen profession.  But hopefully you can see that for low risk pregnancies it is safe.  Plus midwives are regulated by a governing body.And that is the reason why midwives also need to undergo extensive schooling about their chosen profession.They have some know-how in medical procedures that is needed in birthing.That is why mothers should not be worried about their safety since all necessary medical equipments are with the midwife.  It is a viable choice for women.
